Particle size effects in vinyl acetate synthesis over Pd/SiO2

Pd catalysts with varying particle size supported on a high-surface-area (600 m2/g) SiO2 were prepared by wet impregnation. The kinetics of vinyl acetate (VA) synthesis at atmospheric pressure was investigated in a fix-bed microreactor. With transmission electron microscopy (TEM), the average diameter of the Pd particles was estimated to be 4.0 ± 0.2 and 2.5 ± 0.1 nm over the reduced Pd(5.0 wt%...

Spectators Control Selectivity in Surface Chemistry: Acrolein Partial Hydrogenation Over Pd

We present a mechanistic study on selective hydrogenation of acrolein over model Pd surfaces--both single crystal Pd(111) and Pd nanoparticles supported on a model oxide support. We show for the first time that selective hydrogenation of the C═O bond in acrolein to form an unsaturated alcohol is possible over Pd(111) with nearly 100% selectivity. However, this process requires a very distinct m...

Assessment of Particle-size and Temperature Effect of Nanofluid on Heat Transfer Adopting Lattice Boltzmann Model

The investigation of the effect of nanoparticles’ mean diameter and temperature of Al2O3–water nanofluid on velocity and energy field using the lattice Boltzmann method is the main objective of  this study. The temperature of the vertical walls is considered constant at Tc and Th, respectively, while the up and the down horizontal surfaces are smooth a...

Pd-on-Si catalysts prepared via galvanic displacement for the selective hydrogenation of para-chloronitrobenzene.

The direct redox reaction (galvanic displacement) between Pd(2+) and substrate Si was used to deposit Pd on Si, and the Pd-Si catalysts enabled a chemoselective hydrogenation of para-chloronitrobenzene with the selectivity for para-chloroaniline higher than 99.9% at complete conversion of para-chloronitrobenzene.

TiO2 supported Pd@Ag as highly selective catalysts for hydrogenation of acetylene in excess ethylene.

A novel TiO2 supported core-shell (Pd@Ag) bimetallic catalyst was fabricated via the sequential photodeposition method. The Ag shell effectively blocks the high coordination sites on the Pd core, and therefore pronouncedly enhances the ethylene selectivity for the catalytic hydrogenation of acetylene in excess ethylene.
